Propellerhead – Record – Ignition Key

Reason 6 will use the Ignition Key copy protection mechanism. But its a twist on the usual dongle copy protection methodology.

I’ve never really liked dongles for copy protection, but the Propellerhead Ignition Key method give the option to authorise over the internet.

The twist here is that if the key and internet connection is removed the software reverts to demo mode. But never fear, instead of disabling the ability to save your project file, the only thing disable in demo mode is the ability to open a saved file. Genius! Now there’s no need to panic, if you suddenly loose your key and internet connection!

In most cases this should be great, but I can’t help but feel an dongle is a very nickable item! Especially while your out gigging.

Personally I think that this will make WiFi internet access for DJ’s in clubs and performance venues a must in the future.
